Sea-Kayak Therapy in Indian Arm
Enjoy a paddle tour, Pull-Up-A-Log Beach BBQ and Vancouver sea-kayaking adventure.
Take a strategic planning break and practice a little blue sky thinking.
The road ends at a small settlement with the last northernmost public access dock to the inlet. Here you embark in comfortable 2-seater sea-kayaks that will take you on an easy jaunt into some of British Columbia’s most breathtaking scenery. At all times you are accompanied by trained guides who interpret the wild life around you and ensure your comfort. The most common sea mammal here is the harbour seal.Their heads often pop up above the water and their curious large eyes follow your every movement. They are very efficient swimmers and can remain submerged for up to 30 minutes. Seals feed on salmon, herring and trout.
Only 30 minutes from downtown is a remote wilderness that few Vancouverites have visited:Canada’s southernmost glacial fjord, Indian Arm. This scenic ocean inlet was carved out of the north shore mountains by the last ice age together with Glacier Bay, Princess Louisa Inlet, and all the other fjords that penetrate the west coast of British Columbia.
Our mini-bus will pick you up from your hotel and take you along a narrow, winding road through mostly uninhabited rain forest that covers the south side of Vancouver’s north shore mountains as they drop steeply into Indian Arm. This is where the mountains romance the ocean.
Glacial fjords have unique characteristics. Visually they resemble the beauty and calm of a mountain lake. But they are connected to the Pacific Ocean and feature the same diversity of marine life. Rocky shores are covered with barnacles, mussels, anemones, sea stars and crabs, as well as various types of seaweed.
Exposed by extremely low tidal drops, the shores attract a myriad of water birds and eagles at different times of the year. During the winter months Indian Arm is home to migrating ducks, loons, grebes, and other diving birds.
Your lunch destination is a small, uninhabited beach with great views of the inlet. Refresh yourself with a tasty 3-course picnic lunch that includes freshly grilled salmon served on tableware because food should be a feast for the eye as well as the palate. After lunch there is some time for a swim on a hot day, a walk through the woods or just nap in the sun before embarking on the second leg of the trip.
Final destination is Deep Cove, a small quaint waterside community. Spend a little time browsing the eclectic collection of boutiques and cozy coffee shops that line the main street before our minibus takes you back to your hotel.
We take you back to your hotel enriched, rejuvinated and ready for some creative strategic planning. Experience or fitness are not required.
